The Process

The building, staining and finishing all happen offsite. Ben is only in your home to tear out the old railings and fit the new ones, all in a single day. Minimal mess, minimal disruption.

    Ben measures the space, tears out your old railing and puts up a temporary railing so your stairs stay safe to use.

    This takes 5 to 10 business days, depending on the size of your project.

    Installation

    Ben removes the temporary railing and fits your new one, usually in a day, maybe two depending on the size of the project.

What homeowners ask before they book.

How long does a one-day railing reno actually take?

The install is the part that takes a day, maybe two on a larger project. The whole job runs longer than that: Ben measures and removes your old railing first, then builds, stains and finishes the new one in his shop over about 5 to 10 business days, then comes back and fits it.

Will there be dust or fumes in my house?

No. About 70% of the work, all the drilling, cutting, staining and finishing, happens offsite in Ben's shop. Your railing arrives pre-finished, so there is no sanding and no staining going on in your home.

Are my stairs still safe to use while the new railing is being built?

Yes. Once the old railing comes out, Ben puts up a temporary railing so the stairs stay safe to use for the whole time the new one is in the shop.

How much does a one-day railing reno cost?

Railings are priced by the lineal foot based on the style and material, with options for demo and removal, staining, and premium rail, post and baluster styles. Put your measurements into the quote form and Ben will email you an estimate, or send a photo and he will price it for you.

Will the new railing meet building code?

Yes. Ben builds to the National Building Code, 2023 Alberta Edition, which sets the requirements for railing height, spindle spacing and a graspable handrail.

What happens if something goes wrong later?

Every project is backed by Ben's Lifetime Limited Warranty on his workmanship.
