Interior railings/Leduc, Alberta

Interior railings in Leduc.

Leduc is one of the most active new-construction markets in Alberta, which means a lot of houses that are only a few years old and already feel like the neighbours' house inside.

Leduc homes

What are the homes in Leduc like?

SouthforkBridgeportMeadowviewRobinsonWindroseDeer Valley

Leduc's growth has been concentrated in subdivisions built out from the 2000s through the 2020s: Southfork, Bridgeport, Robinson, Tribute, Deer Valley, Meadowview, Windrose and Suntree. They went up as blocks of builder-grade new construction, and several are still under development with multiple builders working at once.

So the stairs in a Leduc home are usually well built and completely standard. The structure is sound and the railing is whatever came in the builder's finishing package, repeated down the whole block.

The usual job

What railing work do Leduc homes usually need?

The same upgrade scope as the other newer communities, with one addition: two-storey plans here often have a long open railing on the upper landing overlooking the entry, and that run is the most visible carpentry in the house.

Changing that landing railing is a strong return for the footage involved, because it's the first thing anyone sees from the front door. Metal spindles with a stained wood handrail and newel posts is the common direction.

Railings are priced by the lineal foot, so a long landing run costs more than a short flight, and it's worth measuring the whole thing before you assume either way. Send the measurements through the contact page and the estimate comes back by email.

Getting to you

Built in the shop, fitted in your home.

Leduc is south of Edmonton on the QEII past the airport, and it sits inside Ben's regular service area.

About 70% of the work, all the drilling, cutting, staining and finishing, is done offsite in Ben's shop, so your home stays clean and he's on site for a fraction of the time. That's the same process wherever the job is. Ben measures your run, builds and finishes the railing offsite, then comes back and fits it, so the disruptive part of the work stays short no matter which side of the city you are on.

Every railing goes in to the National Building Code, 2023 Alberta Edition, and the workmanship is backed by a lifetime workmanship warranty.

We really liked the end result of Ben's work. It was nice that he crafted the materials in his shop, thus limiting the time spent in our home. Easy to work with and his suggestions were good!

Leduc questions

What people here ask first.

Do you come out as far as Leduc for a single railing?

Yes. Leduc is a listed part of Ben's service area, not an exception he makes. A single railing is a normal job, and the travel does not change how it's priced, which is by the lineal foot on the work itself.

How is a long upper-landing railing priced?

By the lineal foot, the same as any other railing, so the length of the run is what drives it. Because open-to-below landings are usually the longest single run in the house, they are worth measuring properly rather than estimating by eye. The contact form takes feet and inches and emails you the figure.

My house is still under builder warranty. Does new carpentry affect that?

That's a question for your builder, not for us, and it's worth asking before you book anything. What Ben can tell you is that his own work carries a lifetime limited warranty on workmanship, set out in full on the warranty page.
